The Optical Assemblies which BMV produces are used in a wide range of industries and applications. The complexity of each assembly can range from that of a single lens, to assemblies requiring seven or more precision spaced lenses. Common sizes for the internal components can be as small as 4mm and as large as 150mm, however most fall into the 10-50mm range.
Many of the assemblies are used in the semiconductor industry as well as medical instruments, weld inspection (for industrial tubing) and space/satellite sectors, to name but a few examples.
For performance verification, BMV utilizes its well-equipped metrology department. Each assembly undergoes extensive testing via ZYGO interferometer and TriOptics OptiCentric 101-3D instruments. Additionally, BMV can internally design and manufacture custom metrology solutions, as required.

Lens Metrology
With two Zygo HP interferometers dedicated to lens metrology combined with an extensive test plate inventory we have the means to test virtually any lens radius surface. If there’s a radius we can’t check, we’ll simply manufacture a custom set of test plates just for that radius.
Opto-Mechanical Lens Assembly
This is where our extensive expertise in designing and manufacturing opto-mechanical systems and optical system assembly comes together. Whether your optical system’s intended work environment is in space, an operating room or industrial environment we utilize our ISO Class 7 cleanroom and our many class 1000 airflow cabinets to aid in ultra clean assembly. Our extensive metrology capabilities allow us to assemble and test lens centration and alignment as well as air spaces to ensure optimal functionality.
Lens Assembly Metrology
We utilize a third Zygo HP interferometer dedicated to lens system metrology, a TriOptics Opticentric 101-3D and the ability to design and manufacture custom metrology solutions to test virtually any parameter of any opto-mechanical lens assembly.
Lens Assembly temperature and humidity testing
Utilizing our Torontech TT-DT30F-2 Temperature Test Chamber we are able to thermal cycle optical assemblies from -70°C to +150°C and introduce humidity if required.
